Here's something I bet you didn't know: Manahattan was named after a poem by Walt Whitman called Mannahatta, which means “island of many hills.”
All of said hills were leveled when the street grid was imposed on the island in the 19th century, and this image shows you how Manhattan looked in 1609 versus today. From National Park filled with wildlife to Concrete Jungle filled with Blair Waldorf's. Crazy.
